with the state forest department. WIR was founded in 1997 by Mayur N. Kamath (Animal Planet’s wildlife filmmaker of the year 2006), as there was an urgent need for a team of dedicated people working for distressed animals. Since then, WIR in association with the local Forest Departments has rescued and rehabilitated wildlife ranging from reptiles to large mammals.

Our objectives:
· Safe rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife in distress
· Support nature conservation sites.
· Promote better understanding about wildlife among people
· Address issues of climate change.

Guiding principles of WIR

To guide WIR to achieve its purpose the following principles have been adopted.
WIR will -
· use the latest scientific information to address issues and
ensure that critically evaluation of all its proceedings are
  undertaken on time
· develop tangible conservation solutions through on-ground
programmes, policy initiatives, capacity building, and
  education & awareness work
· involve local communities and authorities in its
  conservation efforts
· be independent, multifaceted and non party political
· Run its operations cost effectively while availing donors’
funds to the highest standards of accountability.

WIR is committed to these principles and its work, as we believe it’s essential for the honour of life on the earth

WIR saves wildlife through innovation in science, skills, technologies, indigenous knowledge and local participation to protect the some of the richest biodiversity areas and its inhabitants. The organization is unique in a sense that while most of the conservation efforts are duplicated, WIR has ventured in to field of rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife - a road far less traveled.  With a team of stanch nature enthusiasts, WIR is one of the most respected organizations for their commitment to protect distressed fauna and conservation of nature.

WIR also carries out various environmental education and awareness activities such as development of mass awareness models, nature trails for school kids, college students & public with slide shows & talks on various environmental and ecological topics for all.
WIR has an unique niche which it must recognise and exploit. It does not fund large scale ecological research, nor is it a campaigning organisation. It is, however, a guarantor of scientific standards: it has a special role in supporting young nature enthusiast, both in encouraging them to enter the discipline and in promoting their interests in the early stages of their careers. As an independent body it can offer impartial and generates widespread public opinion. The range of activities that the WIR might undertake is very large, especially in the fields of education and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. However, these aspirations are expensive, and at present the WIR’s income comes largely from individual donations.
